Five-time, three-division world champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis and hard-hitting sensation “King” Ryan Garcia came face-to-face for a special pre-fight press conference in Los Angeles, CA at the Beverly Hilton. A highly-anticipated matchup is scheduled to go down at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 22 in the super lightweight division live on SHOWTIME PPV.
Currently, the 135-pound landscape is filled to the brim with mouthwatering talent. Shakur Stevenson, after reigning atop the super featherweight division as a unified champion, is set to make his lightweight debut in a few short weeks when he takes on Shuichiro Yoshino. Devin Haney, Undisputed Champ; the WBO, WBA, WBC, and IBF world titlist, is on the verge of solidifying a showdown against former two-time Olympic gold medalist, Vasiliy Lomachenko. Sky the limit in this division.
Davis spoke in his upcoming bout against Garcia to a group of reporters that he is the face of boxing now. This division moves when he moves. “I’m the number one guy right now. It doesn't matter who they put in front of me. I’m better.”
Davis also gave a moderate and respectful quote about his upcoming bout against Garcia, “This fight is going to be tough,” Davis countered. “But this is what we came to do. We want the big fights. I’ve been boxing since I was seven. I fought a lot coming up. I’m just happy to be a part of this moment and share the ring with a young fighter like Ryan Garcia who’s daring himself to be great. He talked his way into this fight. April 22 he’s going to have to show it.”
The press event for both Gervonta Davis vs Ryan Garcia got a little touchy-feely during the heated exchanges. Where we had Davis putting his hands in front of Garcia's face; from Garcia saying Davis's wearing/carrying purses around with him.
Garcia spoke with media members about how much this fight means to him and why he’s going to lay it all on the line — with zero doubt about getting the job done. Check out some excerpts of what Garcia had to say about facing Tank.
“I willing to risk my soul for this,” Garcia told the media. “I’m ready to risk my life. One thing I can guarantee him, it won’t be easy. If he thinks he’s just gonna come in and throw a couple of punches, I’m gonna fold, he’s got another thing coming for him. He doesn’t understand this type of hunger, this type of fire. This is not normal. I’m ready to destroy him.”
Ryan Garcia is supposed to believe that he is going to win. Have the expectation and desire to do so, but by and large, both the betting and boxing worlds are convinced that the Baltimore native will ultimately walk away with his hand held in triumph.
We will see very soon who will be victorious on April 22.
